On the Evolution and Gravitational Collapse of a Toroidal Vortex
نویسندگان
چکیده
The evolution and collapse of a gaseous toroidal vortex under the action of self-gravitation are considered using the Hamiltonian mechanics approach. It is shown that evolution occurs in three main stages separated by characteristic time scales. First, a compression along the small radius to a quasi-equilibrium state takes place, followed by a slower compression along the large radius to a more stable compact vortex object. In the latter stage, the possibility of effective scattering and ejection of particles along the vortex axis (jet formation) is detected. As a result, mass, energy, and momentum losses take place, and the vortex collapses. © 2003 MAIK “Nauka/Interperiodica”.

Gravitational Collapse and Equilibrium Conditions of a Toroidal Vortex with Thermal Pressure
We found the equilibrium conditions for a self-gravitating toroidal vortex by taking thermal pressure into account. These conditions are shown to significantly differ from those for a disk or a sphere. The evolution of a thin vortex turns it into a compact vortex that loses mechanical stability for low masses at a polytropic index γ < 4/3 but retains stability for sufficiently high masses and d...
متن کاملStudy of Solar Magnetic and Gravitational Energies Through the Virial Theorem
Virial theorem is important for understanding stellar structures. It produces an interesting connection between magnetic and gravitational energies. Using the general form of the virial theorem including the magnetic field (toroidal magnetic field), we may explain the solar dynamo model in relation to variations of the magnetic and gravitational energies. We emphasize the role of the gravitatio...
متن کاملQuasars: a supermassive rotating toroidal black hole interpretation
A supermassive rotating toroidal black hole (TBH) is proposed as the fundamental component of quasars and other jet-producing active galactic nuclei. Rotating protogalaxies gather matter from the central gaseous region leading to the birth of massive toroidal stars, the internal nuclear reactions of which proceed very rapidly. Once the nuclear fuel is spent, gravitational collapse produces a sl...
متن کاملGravitational Collapse to Toroidal and Higher Genus Asymptotically AdS Black Holes
We match collapsing inhomogeneous as well as spatially homogeneous but anisotropic spacetimes to vacuum static exteriors with a negative cosmological constant and planar or hyperbolic symmetry. The collapsing interiors include the inhomogeneous solutions of Szekeres and of Barnes, which in turn include the Lemâıtre-Tolman and the McVittie solutions. The collapse can result in toroidal or higher...
متن کاملA Novel Indicator to Predict the Onset of Instability of a Gravitational Flow on a Slope
In order to present a quantitative indicator for the onset of instability, in this paper, the critical points of a stratified gravitational flow on a slope are found and analyzed. These points are obtained by means of the solution of the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations via the standard Arakawa-C finite-difference method. Results show that in the marginal Richardson numbers, the critical...
